      fix, and a regression test pins it so the bug cannot silently return.


      A founder wants to "detect every duplicate user account." The thinker
      interrogates computability: exact deduplication assumes a clean identity
      key, which does not exist for humans who mistype names and reuse emails,
      so the honest restatement is a similarity-threshold problem, not equality.
      That reframing trades an impossible exact answer for a tractable
      approximate one — blocking on a cheap key to avoid the O(n²) all-pairs
      comparison, then scoring within blocks — and surfaces the ethical edge:
      every threshold both merges real duplicates and wrongly fuses distinct
      people, a tradeoff the founder, not the algorithm, must own.
